CELTIC 1 - 0 ST MIRRIN BY TOMMY DORNAN
Well back to business, the start of our four in a row campaign, it seems such a short time since we were dancing around deliriously celebrating and laughing at our friends across the City….. Hold that thought, actually we were, I’d confused last season and last Tuesday for a moment. Happy times indeed. Sunday was an emotional day and must have been very difficult for Rosemary Burns and her family. We can only admire the courage she showed to walk to that podium. Regardless of any individual feelings it must be said , well done John Reid, his words summed up the feelings of the support for Tommy. It was a very moving big screen tribute of Tommy singing his signature tune. For those of a suspicious nature please note, one of the big screens was not working, they were not turned off in an attempt to hide the Chairman, he was the guy with the mike out on the park with Rosemary , Big Mick and that big shiny cup. Isn’t it a tradition elsewhere that you get to keep trophies permanently after three in a row ? Wasn’t it a joke though that yet again the Champions curtain raiser came a day after the league had already started. I wonder why the Chinese never had that magnificent opening spectacle of the Olympics after the swimming or cycling events. Maybe someday someone in authority will give due consideration to supporters and the need to sell the game to the spectators? It seems that last season has continued uninterrupted as it now appears that every decision in our favour is questioned and found lacking. I never new there were so many Celtic supporting referees out there. Where is the condemnation of the responsible parties, the righteous indignation of the media, why haven’t the blazer brigade rushed to defend the integrity of referees, WHY is it wrong for someone to wink at Gus McPherson? My god a referee makes two decisions over two seasons which go in our favour and everyone cries FOUL. The media have almost given more time to what team Smith and his FAMILY supports than the demise of the famous Wattenaccio coming a cropper in Kaunas.Get over it, it was a stonewall penalty, it should have been the second of the day and it deserved a red card.St Mirren again made it a tough game and battled well across the park. It would have been nice to see a free flowing game dominated by our midfield and a bundle of goals laying down the marker for the season but we are still two points ahead of last years pace. Definitely not the most exciting or indeed entertaining game but even the crappy three points count when it comes to prizes. We’ve still got lots to look forward to this season, some great young Bhoys coming through, two new signings in , possibly a few more before the window closes and unlike some, another European adventure to enjoy. Here we go 4 in a row.

 CELTIC TRUST NEWS
To download the following forms go to http://www.celtictrust.net/ Trust shareholder requisition formsDear Member At the last general meeting of the Trust held on 24 May 2008 it was decided to put forward two resolutions to the Celtic PLC AGM which we expect will take place sometime in the autumn. Under the terms of our constitution we are required to hold a ballot of members on these resolutions. Also according to the terms of the Companies Act any resolution must be backed by 100 shareholders before it can be considered. We are doing this in good time as often the notice of the AGM comes too late for consultation. Attached you will find: • A ballot paper detailing the two resolutions • Resolution 1 endorsement • Resolution 2 endorsement If you support these resolutions please indicate this on the Ballot paper and if you are a shareholder I would be grateful if you could sign both the endorsements too. If members agree to these resolutions then we will be required to lodge these signed endorsements with the Company Secretary of Celtic PLC. In the event of members balloting not to support the resolutions the endorsements will be destroyed. For those members receiving these papers by e-mail please print off and sign the forms and return to me by post because as mentioned previously we will need to lodge hard copies of signed endorsements with Celtic. In the past although resolutions put forward by the Trust have been defeated at the AGM they have later reappeared as Board policy e.g. the share reinvestment scheme and the Charity Football Match. Resolution 1 seeking supporter representation on the Celtic Board is the basic plank of Trust policy. Up to now we have been unsuccessful and we feel that asking for a co-opted member rather than full member may be better received by those who opposed us in the past.. Resolution 2 we are sure will strike a chord with all Celtic supporters who held the late Tommy Burns in such affection. We are confident that these current resolutions will find favour with our members but it is vital that you do vote and sign both endorsements if you are a shareholder. If you know of any shareholder who is not a member of the Trust but who would support these resolutions please feel free to photocopy the endorsement forms for their use. I have provided a Freepost address which members are welcome to use but if you do care to put on a stamp this will defray expenses. Ballot papers and signed endorsements should be sent to me by Thursday 28 August 08 at the above address or at Freepost RRYC-YRLE-ZHJU, The Celtic Trust, Glasgow G32 2AX. If you have any questions I can be contacted at the e-mail address or telephone no have l number noted above. Looking forward to hearing from you all Yours sincerely Marie McCusker (Acting Secretary) CELTIC PLC Draft resolution to be proposed at the Annual General Meeting of 2008 under the terms of the Companies Act 1985 Resolution 1 ‘That the Board is requested to enter into discussions with the various bodies which represent supporters with a view to putting in place an arrangement whereby a suitably qualified person, duly nominated by supporters could be co-opted on to the PLC Board. This person would contribute to discussion but have no voting powers. The purpose of such an arrangement would be to test out the premise, without any loss of principle, that the Board would benefit from a direct line of communication with the supporters. Car Parking at Celtic Park
CELTIC supporters coming to home games for this season should note that the grassed area opposite Celtic Park has now been totally fenced off and building work has begun on the National Indoor Sports Arena for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. As a result, fans who have parked in that area will no longer be able to do so. However, Celtic have obtained the use of three areas where parking will be offered to supporters. These areas are: • Hollywell Street (just off Janefield Street; former football pitch) • Car park at the front of the Creamery – just off of Gallowgate. • John Wheatley College, Haghill Road. Please note that spaces are limited and are strictly on a first come, first served basis. The car parks will be stewarded and time restrictions on entry to and egress from Hollywell Street and the Creamery area will apply. These areas will be accessible from three hours until one hour prior to kick-off. Supporters should note that these arrangements will apply for games going forward, beginning with the pre-season friendly versus Manchester City on Wednesday, August 6.

North of England 7 a side tournament
Winners Runners Up Congratulations to Scarborough Celtic Supporters Club for winning the Annual North of England 7a side football tournament, they beat host's Keighley in a very entertaining final, both teams deserved to reach the final after battling their way through the qualifying rounds, great credit most go to all the teams who took part, also to the Holy Family School for the use of their facilities, and to all those who attended the Party on Saturday night. This tournament is run every year to give Celtic supporters from the North of England the chance to meet up and have some fun, usually they only meet at service stations on the way to Celtic Park, but the host team also donates any profit made to good causes, and this year the host's, Keighley Celtic Supporters have excelled themselves, not only did they host the football tournament, they also hosted a Golf day earlier in the year, all the proceed's going to local charities, namely,Manorlands(Cancer Care Hospice)and the local Hospital(Airedale General)Baby Care Unit. The main sponsors for that event were Keighley Golf Club, and Prozone Sports Ltd,grateful thanks to both of them,Six Premiership Referee's turned up for the Golf Day,I wonder how many would have turned if it had been in Scotland!!!. celtic football club statement
IT is with great sadness that Celtic Football Club today announced that Scott Brown's sister Fiona (21) has passed away after a long battle against cancer. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Scott and his family at this difficult time. Clearly, Scott and his family will be receiving every support from Celtic Football Club. This is an extremely difficult time for the entire family and naturally, we would ask that the family's privacy is respected. There will be no further comment from Scott or his family on this matter and they have asked not to be contacted. Under the Press Complaints Commission Code of Practice, the need to respect an individual's privacy with regards to intrusion into grief or shock is clearly stated and we trust that this will be observed in relation to Scott and the family. We thank the press and media in advance for observing this request.

 CHAMPIONIES
Emotions threatened to overcome the Celtic family at times over the past week, when we saw our high point and lowest ebb within days. Our grief at the loss of a favourite son was only matched by our joy in clinching three in a row against all odds. Gordon Strachan has been criticised at times for team selection and tactics. He is entitled to flash two fingers at those critics and remind them that he ranks along side Maley and Stein seeing off three consecutive Rangers managers in the process. His achievement at home and in Europe entitle him to complete support from the stands and further financial backing from the board. Marks out of 10, 9.5, nobody’s perfect but he’s working on it. There are a number of contenders for MVP, McGeadyfor his thrilling wing play, reminiscent of Jinky, Caldwell for refusing to buckle under early season mistakes, playing out of position and Artur for sheer class and entertainment. However the award must go to Scott McDonald who provided the statistics that matter most, 31 scored. Enjoy the summer Skippy and come back ready to do it all again. The guaranteed income from the Champions League should mean more money available to strengthen the team. Areas needing looked at are, left back where Lee Naylor has struggled with no obvious replacement, a pacey front man to exploit Nakas passing and despite the best defensive record in the league, a dominant centre back who can pass a ball. I do expect to see Scott Brown settle down in a central role next season with renewed confidence, possibly alongside Robson who has had a wonderful start to his Celtic career and hope Donati can recapture his early season form. Perhaps we wont need to spend too much in the summer with the likes of Ben Hutchinson, Koki Mizuno, Cillian Sheridan, Simon Ferry,Scott Cuthbert and more of Tommy Burns protégés waiting in the wings. Maybe we’ll blow the budget on one super signing, Lionel Messi anyone? There are sure to be a number of players leaving in the close season, Steven Pressley, Bobo, Derek Riordan ? If so we wish them well. Finally, to the 2nd best, won more, lost fewer, goal difference better, points total superior, what do points make? Thanks for the chase, its going to be 4 in a row.
